1 Hour SAFE: Emergence of AVM’s & Combatting Appraisal Bias (#15827)

The NMLSR has granted approval for this Online Self Study (OSS) 1 Hour SAFE Emergence of AVM’s & Combatting Appraisal Bias Continuing Education Course. It is intended to satisfy one hour of elective requirements towards the 8 hours of required annual SAFE education. This 1 Hour SAFE OSS course incorporates timed modules, enabling students to progress at their own pace. Upon enrollment, students will receive a confirmation email containing login details and necessary technology requirements.

SAFE Required CE

Licensees must complete a minimum of eight (8) hours of certified continuing education (CE) in order to renew licenses. The education must include at least:

• Three (3) hours dedicated to Federal law and regulations.
• Two (2) hours focused on ethics, covering instruction on fraud, consumer protection, and fair lending standards.
• Two (2) hours allocated for training on lending standards in the nontraditional mortgage product marketplace.
• One (1) hour of elective education.

1 Hour SAFE OSS Course Content

The course fulfills the 1-hour requirement for elective education. It covers the issue of disparate treatment, and we will segment this issue into different areas of focus. One area of focus will be algorithmic bias in home valuations. We will look at the CFPB’s statement and guidance on this topic. We will further this by looking at bias in home appraisals. Additionally, we will show how bias in home valuations also violate fair lending laws. This is a newly introduced 1-hour SAFE CE course. This allows both new and existing clients to complete it without violating the NMLS’ successive year rule.
